The following themes will be discussed at the Frontiers in Optics (FiO) 2012/Laser Science (LS) XXVIII conference in Rochester, NY, USA, 14-18 October 2012.
These meetings focus on timely topics in optical science and engineering and provide a place for members to exchange ideas and to expand their network of colleagues in both academia and industry.

The Optical Society (OSA)
FiO 2012—the 96th OSA Annual Meeting—and LS XXVIII unite the OSA and American Physical Society (APS) communities for five days of quality, cutting-edge presentations, fascinating invited speakers and a variety of special events. The FiO 2012 conference will also offer a number of Short Courses designed to increase participants’ knowledge of a specific subject while offering the experience of insightful teachers. An exhibit floor featuring leading optics companies will further enhance the meeting.
The APS Division of Laser Science (DLS)
The LS XXVIII meeting serves as the 28th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society (APS) of its Division of Laser Science (DLS) and provides an important forum for presenting the latest work on laser applications and development, spanning a broad range of topics in physics, biology and chemistry.
In collaboration with our colleagues at OSA, DLS will provide thorough coverage of mutually interesting topics in a number of joint sessions. Session schedules are coordinated to encourage your intellectual wanderings among DLS, OSA and joint sessions. Be prepared to engage in outstanding technical programs, exciting special symposia and networking events scheduled for this year's annual meeting.
