See the World Differently at FIO + LS 2017

LIGO Deputy Spokesperson, Laura Cadonati, and Leader in Automotive LiDAR Systems, Jason Eichenholz, to Headline Conference

WASHINGTON – Whether you are in an autonomous vehicle looking to avoid collisions with nearby objects, or sitting on Earth and trying to detect collisions of black holes in the furthest galaxies, the Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science APS/DLS (FIO + LS) plenary presentations will detail recent achievements in gravitational wave science and today’s LiDAR applications. FIO + LS has been thoughtfully redesigned to offer attendees the best of past meetings while adding innovative elements to this year’s meeting. Presentations will be delivered throughout the week on the four conference research thrusts: Automotive, Nanophotonics and Plasmonics, Optics in Computing and Virtual Reality and Augmented Vision.

WHAT: 2017 Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science APS/DLS Conference
WHERE: Washington Hilton, District of Columbia, USA
WHEN:  Technical Conference: 17–21 September 2017, Exhibition: 19–20 September 2017
PLENARY PRESENTATION: Tuesday, 19 September, 8:00–9:30 am

Conference Plenary
As technology advances at an ever-increasing pace, the potential applications for optics continue to grow and bring us closer to the edge of amazing discovery and automation.

Dr. Laura Cadonati
Georgia Institute of Technology and LIGO Scientific Collaboration, USA

Laura Cadonati joined the Center for Relativistic Astrophysics at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015. Her research interests include gravitational waves and particle astrophysics. She is part of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), a global collaboration of more than 1,000 scientists working to detect the waves Einstein predicted in 1916. Cadonati is the first-ever deputy spokesperson of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC), speaking on behalf of LIGO when new detections are announced and overseeing the management of divisions such as data analysis and astrophysics.

Dr. Jason Eichenholz
Luminar Technologies, USA

Jason Eichenholz is a serial entrepreneur and pioneer in laser, optics and photonics product development and commercialization. Over the past twenty-five years, he led the development of hundreds of millions of dollars of new photonics products. Before joining Luminar as CTO and co-founder, Eichenholz was the CEO and founder of Open Photonics, an open innovation company dedicated to the commercialization of optics and photonics technologies. Prior to that, he served as the Divisional Technology Director at Halma PLC. In that role, he was responsible for supporting innovation, technology and strategic development for the Photonics and Health Optics Divisions. Before joining Halma, he was the CTO and Board Member of Ocean Optics Inc. as well as the Director of Strategic Marketing at Newport/Spectra-Physics.

Media Registration
A media room for credentialed media and analysts will be located on-site. Media interested in attending the event should register on the FiO + LS website media center: Media Center.

About FiO + LS
Frontiers in Optics is The Optical Society’s (OSA) Annual Meeting and held together with Laser Science, a meeting sponsored by the American Physical Society’s Division of Laser Science (DLS). The two meetings unite the OSA and APS communities for five days of quality, cutting-edge presentations, in-demand invited speakers and a variety of special events spanning a broad range of topics in optics and photonics—the science of light—across the disciplines of physics, biology and chemistry. The exhibit floor will feature leading optics companies, technology products and programs.
